Organized Chaos: How Embracing Your Mess Can Boost Your Life

Life’s messy. Like… “forgot to do laundry for two weeks, spilled coffee on your laptop, and still managed to crush your deadlines” messy. And honestly? That’s where the magic happens.

I’m 28 years old, and looking back, I wish someone had handed me a list of truths about life, love, and the gloriously chaotic journey of being in your twenties. Instead, I fumbled, tripped, and occasionally cried in Target aisles.... ( mostly Walmart because why the fuck is target so expensive?! )

So here it is: 20 things I wish I knew in my early twenties about embracing the mess and actually thriving in it.

1. Your mess is your superpower.

No, really. The chaos, the weird quirks, the “oops” moments—they make you… you. Own it.

2. A messy desk ≠ a messy brain.

Sometimes your thoughts are all over the place, and that’s okay. Journals are your friend. (Yes, the ones from Planned Mess.)

3. You don’t have to have it all figured out.

Nobody does. Stop comparing your life to Instagram highlight reels.

4. Failure is just plot development.

Spilled coffee on your laptop? Missed a deadline? Yeah. Storyline. Keep going.

5. Cozy merch helps.

Ever tried adulting in a hoodie that literally whispers, “You’re fine, queen”? Game changer.

6. Your twenties are a testing ground.

Try things, fail, laugh, repeat. It’s like life’s very own lab ... that's sometimes can become messy, but necessary.

7. Journaling = therapy without the bill.

Write down your thoughts, your dreams, your rants. Even doodle. Your future self will thank

you.

8. “No” is a complete sentence.

Learning this late in the game saved me so much energy.

9. Celebrate small wins.

Laundry done. Emails sent. Didn’t cry today. Pop that confetti.

10. Routine isn’t the enemy.

A little structure keeps your chaos from swallowing you whole. Planners help. (Hint: Planned Mess planners.)

11. Don’t ghost your own feelings.

Cry. Laugh. Dance in your living room. Life is short, messy, and precious.

12. Social media detoxes are underrated.

You don’t need everyone’s opinion to validate your chaos.

13. Your friends change—and that’s okay.

People drift, you drift, life moves. Appreciate the ride.

14. Self-care isn’t selfish.

Mug of tea? Hoodie on. Journal open. You deserve this.

15. Perfection is boring.

Messy hair, messy desk, messy heart—messy can be sexy too.

16. Learn to laugh at yourself.

The world doesn’t always go as planned. Neither will you. And that’s hilarious.

17. Invest in yourself.

Buy that hoodie, that journal, create that cozy corner of calm you always wanted in your apartment, bedroom, or special section of the house , START IT! . It’s not indulgence—it’s sanity.

18. You’ll surprise yourself.

Things you never thought possible? Totally possible. Just messy along the way.

19. Community matters.

Find your people—other messy queens, other chaotic kings. Share stories, relatable moments (it's okay if they're cringey moments, we all have them!) , and laughs.

20. Planning your mess is the ultimate glow-up.

Here’s the truth: chaos doesn’t have to feel scary. It can feel like freedom. And when you embrace it, you grow, you shine, you thrive.

Life’s messy...

You can begin to organize and plan it a lot better when provided with the right tools, people, and supportive community—like the one here at Planned Mess.
