When the Dream Costs More Than the Reward

You ever chase a dream so hard that when you finally catch it… you realize it came with a bill you weren’t prepared to pay?

Maybe it was school. Maybe it was a certification. Maybe it was starting that business everyone told you was “too risky.” You thought, this is my next step, only to find out that step led straight into a pile of debt, exhaustion, and “we regret to inform you” emails from jobs that never called back.

Now you’re sitting in your car after work, counting gas money, debating which bill can wait until next week. And for what? A dream that doesn’t even pay enough to live off of yet?

The struggle is real — that endless cycle of working a job that barely covers the basics while trying to build a future that feels further away every month. You went after growth, education, opportunity… but now it feels like survival mode.

That’s where the Broke Girl Fund came from.

When our founder was 28, she knew that exact feeling. The degrees were there, the ambition was there, but the finances — not so much. Tuition? High. Bills? Higher. Support system? Basically a Wi-Fi connection and a prayer. No wealthy relatives. No safety net. Just trying to figure out how to make it all work without falling apart.

And in that chaos, a thought formed: What if there was a community that actually showed up when life got real?

No credit check. No judgment. No hoops. Just a genuine hand to help someone get back on track — whether it’s a bill, groceries, tuition, or just the peace of knowing someone cares.

That’s what we’re building here. Planned Mess isn’t just about merch — it’s about meaning. Every purchase, every post, every person here is part of something bigger.
